Melvin Seard (1937-2013)


Melvin Leon Seard - age 76 passed away Thursday, June 27, 2013. Mr. Seard was born Tuesday, February 9, 1937, in Greenville, Mississippi, to the late James Robert and Mable Bernice White Seard; he is also preceded in death by his wife Marie Hoyle Seard.

Mr. Seard attended D.C. Teacher's College (now the University of the District Columbia). He received a Honorary Doctorate of Laws; he later went on to work in Operation Whitecoat - Germ Warfare Project; a Lab. Tech at the National Institute of Health; then 30 years at General Conference of Seventh-day Adventist as Director of Facilities Management. Mr. Seard was the first African-American to head a department at the Seventh-day Adventist Denominational Headquarters.

Mr. Seard is survived by his son, Melvin Leon Seard, II and his wife, Angela Joy; sisters, Lydia Tucker, Helen Seard Davis, Carolyn Parker; nephew, Andre' R. Davis; grandchildren, Alivia Noel & Landon Gabriel Seard, grandnephews, Andre' Ryan and John Alexander Davis and a host of nieces, nephews, god-children & friends.
